(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – St. Lawrence Catholic School, 524 Walnut Street, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana will begin offering preschool in the 2017-2018 school year.
It’s a first for the 148-year-old private, Catholic school which currently hosts kindergarten through 8th grade classes.
Principal Michael Odar says any child that is four years old by August 1, and is potty trained, is eligible to participate in the half-day preschool program. The initial class size will be limited to 10 children.
“I am truly excited about expanding our ministry to include preschool. St. Lawrence takes pride in preparing our students spiritually and academically for the ever-changing world of the 21st century. Being able to help instill that Christian spirit and lay the academic groundwork for success is something that we could not pass up,” Odar says.
Parents will have two options for their preschool-aged children at St. Lawrence School. Classes will be offered daily Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Or, preschoolers can attend Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the same time each week.
Cost for the pre-school classes at St. Lawrence will be $17 per day.
Led by an experienced, highly-qualified and certified early childhood teacher, preschool instruction will focus on faith and Christianity, parent and community connections, developmental readiness, progress monitoring, patterning, building hand strength, crossing the midline, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills. Students will be eligible for a kindergarten readiness assessment in May.
The preschool class will be taught by Mrs. Pam Leiker.
“I am excited about teaching preschool at St. Lawrence. Preschoolers are the most fun because everything is new to them. Also, foundational academic skills are the most important in education,” says Leiker.
